The beautiful Kenya: Background information.

Kenya is a country fround in the eastern part of Africa. Its neighbors are Uganda on the west,Tanzania on the south,Sudan and Ethiopia on the North, and finally Somalia in the eastern part. The south eastern part of Kenya is lined by a coastal strip along the Indian ocean stretching from the border with Tanzania on the south to Samalia on the north coast of Kenya.

Kenya is made up of about fifty tribes, each one of them with its own dielect and cultural practices and traditions passed on from one generation to another. The different tribes are all united by one common language swahili and one government of the republic of Kenya.There are two official languages in Kenya: English and Swahili.

Kenya had been colonised by the British during the imperialists regimes in Africa from the 1800s to early 1960s.Kenya gained its independence from the British rule on June,1st,1963 and became a Republic on December,12th,1964.The first president for Kenya was Mzee Jomo Kenyatta.

Currently, Kenya enjoys a multiparty democracy with many political parties sponsoring elected officials to the country's parliament.The country has embarked a vision 2030 program that is too see this third world country become an industrialised nation.

Kenya has about forty million people. The largest tribe is the Kikuyu according to the latest census details.This tribe mostly found in the central highlands of Kenya.The other populous tribes are the Luhya and Luos found in the western side of the country. The Kalenjin and the Kamba are some othe other populous tribes.The Kalenjins are mostly found in thehighlands of Rift Valley region of the country and the Kamba are found in the eastern lowlands of the country. At the coast we find the Taitas on the upper coast and the Miji Kenda at the lower coast. There is a small Arab community found in the coast who are predominantly muslims.

Majority of the Kenyans practice christianity,majority being the catholics followed by the protestant christians. A few Kenyans are still traditionalists and practise traditional religions and beliefs.Muslim faith is also practised by some, majority at the coast and north eastern tribes.

The capital of Kenya is Nairobi with about 3.5 million people. Nairobi city enjoys a metropolitan lifestyle with sky scrappers dorning its skylines and busy traffic ways meandering within the city with the same challenges found in major cities found in the developed world. The life in the city of Nairobi, is fast-paced and most people walk in a hurry to get to places - places of work,eating places,entertainment places and public transport centres.

Getting fit while on vacation in Kenya.

 A trip to the Kenya coast can make one enjoy the greatest vacation that can involve running endless miles at the beaches made up of clear skies and white sandy beaches.

Water sports varieties at the coast are a hallmark of the vacation body toning and wild fitness  activities that can energise your vacation.Watamu, Kenya is the home for the base for the wildfitness program.The program is a one to three weeks course of intense workout which incorporates the beauty of its natural sorroundings.

Safaris are also organised from Watamu to other parts of the country to enjoy seeing the great riches of the Kenyan wildlife and its natural resources.

Nairobi is the capital city of Kenya. This city has about 4 million people. The city of Nairobi came in existence in the late 1800's when the British colonialists establsihed it as a railway station enroute to Uganda from the Kenyan coastal town of Mombasa. After Kenya gained independence, Nairobi became the capital city. Nairobi is a large business hub and many international agenices have headquarters in Nairobi such as the UNEP(United Nations Environmental Program).

Nairobi has the beauty of a modern city  with a great city centre and excellent suburbs. However,found in Nairobi also, is one of Africas largest slum.

The geographical location of Nairobi favors it greatly. Nairobi is built on a plateau and its temperatures a cool throughout the year.

The attractions of Nairobi, Kenya.

Nairobi boasts the luxuries and the lush life found in most large modern cities. However, Nairobi is uniquely endowed with a natural resource of its own kind, just within 5 miles from the city centre is the Nairobi National Park with very good wildlife. Nairobi National Park hosts one of Kenya's most successful black rhino sanctuary. Furthermore, this park has its own wildebeest migration similar to the mara-serengeti migration,one of the wonders of the world.The Nairobi National Park is also a home to many more animals and over 400 species of birds.

Other than the Nairobi National Park, there are various very interesting wildlife points in the city of Nairobi for wildlife lovers,such a place is,the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust which harbors elephant and rhino orphans, and the butterfly centre where beautiful of over 1000's species of butterflies dwell.

Nairobi is a rich in culture and it is amulti-cultural city with all tribes of Kenya represented. There many historical avenues as well as good museums. The excellent museums include the National Museum located on the Museum Hill area of Nairobi, the Kenya Railways Museum and the Karen Blixen Museum.

To sample out different dishes, one may visit the Carnivore Restaurant in Langata area, a suburb of Nairobi which offers dishes of all kinds even wild ones. Different game meat served in traditional Kenya ways is served daily. Carnivore restaurant offers a stop over while on safari in Nairobi.

Places to visit outside Nairobi, Kenya.

Many attractive places remain outside the capital city of Nairobi popularly known as the city in the Sun. A few miles to the west of Nairobi takes one on safari to the reknowned Masaai mara game reserve where one of the seven wonders of the world takes place annually. This is the mass migration of the wildebeest between the Mara and the Serengeti in northern Tanzania across the deadly mara river. This offers the Safari funatics a rare opportunity to witness rare depiction of natural mystery.

To the north of Nairobi, many safaris will take you to the beautiful rift valley natural eye catching tourists sites such as the hot spings of the lake Bogoria, the famous flamingoes of the Lake Nakuru,the Menengai crater and the rift valley escarpments.

Further in the west of Nairobi, one arrives at the lakeshore city of Kisumu filled with the strong culture of the local fishermen living around the second largest lake in the world, the lake Victoria. This lake is marvelous place to take boat rides, fresh water fishing and water sporting. The lake is large and has created a natural ecosystem with beautiful birds and other lake basin attraction sites.

To the south of Nairobi, one can travel to the coast traversing the savannah lowlands, home to the famous big fives. The animals found in the Tsavos, Amboseli National parks will make unforgettable memories of the Kenyan safari.

Once at the coast, the historical landmarks such as the Fort Jesus built in the 1400s by the Portuguese explorer Vasco da Gama is remarkable. Up the north coast, one can visit the historical Gede ruins.

The Kenyan coast boasts of blue waters of the Indian ocean and white sandy beaches that are remarkable. These beaches are beautified by five star hotels for utmost relaxation when on a safari to the Kenyan coast.

Night clubs are all over the coastal stretch of Kenya, offering travellers the richness of the culture of the people living in the Kenyan coast.

The Kenyan coast offers the gateway to not only Kenya but to the rest of African countries that are land-locked.

Kenya is a magnificent country, everywhere you go is culturally different. It's a magnificent destination for all, especially those who are visiting Africa for the first time!
